Moxa therapy produces pleasant warming sensation that penetrates deep beneath the skin, while stimulating circulation.  The herb used in this therapy is dried Mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris) which is burned above the skin (not directly touching the skin) at the site of acupuncture points and along meridian channels.

Moxa is especially beneficial in cases of pain, chronic illness, turning a breach baby, and when a patient is too weak to receive an acupuncture treatment.
